Jacques Blanchet - Aujourd'hui! (2026) [Hi-Res]

"Aujourd'hui!" is the second and final studio album by Québécois singer-songwriter Jacques Blanchet, released by Columbia in 1965 (catalogue numbers FL 321 mono and FS 621 stereo). Following his 1962 debut "Tête heureuse," the record captured the mature period of an artist already firmly established as one of the founding figures of the Québec chansonnier movement, alongside Félix Leclerc and Raymond Lévesque.
Every song was written by Blanchet himself, with arrangements and orchestral direction handled by a young André Gagnon — soon to become one of Québec's most celebrated pianists and composers. Their collaboration defined the album's sound: traditional chansonnier sensibilities sit beside lighter, pop-oriented numbers reflecting the spirit of the mid-1960s. The track "On est yé-yé!" speaks directly to the francophone yé-yé pop wave then sweeping Québec and France, while "La peau noire" — released as a single (Columbia C4 6889) — became one of Blanchet's most prominent songs.
Stylistically the album sits at the crossroads of traditional Québec chanson, yé-yé era pop, and light rhythm & blues — precisely the genre triangulation Discogs documents for the original release. Although the wider public never fully recognised Blanchet's worth in his lifetime, his songwriting was celebrated by critics and peers: after his death in 1981 the "Médaille Jacques Blanchet" was created to honour underappreciated singer-songwriters, and his composition "Le ciel se marie avec la mer" was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. "Aujourd'hui!" stands as a valuable document of a transitional moment — when Québec's classical chanson tradition met the emerging pop aesthetic of the mid-sixties.
