Fils de personne ("Nobody's Son") is the original soundtrack to the eponymous French drama directed by Safy Nebbou, scheduled for release in France on June 10, 2026. The film follows Thomas and his wife Mathilda, who after years of failed attempts finally adopt four-year-old Mapring from Thailand. When Mathilda dies in a tragic accident, Thomas is left alone with a child he never truly wanted. Devastated and adrift, he decides to travel back to Thailand to search for the boy's biological family — and perhaps, in doing so, find a way to heal.
Fils de personne marks the third collaboration between Ibrahim Maalouf and director Safy Nebbou, following Dans les forêts de Sibérie and Celle que vous croyez — the former earning Maalouf the César Award for Best Original Score in 2017. The score is co-composed with Sonia Mohammed-Chérif, a French singer, pianist, and songwriter who has previously contributed to several Nebbou productions, including Celle que vous croyez and Revenir. The film is itself an adaptation of the Norwegian drama Handle with Care (Arild Andresen, 2017).
Released on Mister Ibé, Maalouf's independent label founded in 2006 to manage both his concert work and film scoring career, the album comprises nineteen predominantly short instrumental cues. Track titles — Thomas, Matilda, Mapring, On the Road, Luang, Bangkok, Papa — map directly onto the film's characters and geography, shaping the score into an intimate sonic travelogue. The sole extended piece, "Papa" (5:06), holds the emotional weight of the album, while the closing "On the Sea Again" echoes an earlier cue to create a quietly circular dramatic arc.
