The film had its world premiere in the Orizzonti section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in August 2025. Set in a declining Cornish fishing village, it follows two men who join the crew of the mysteriously returned vessel Rose of Nevada, only to find themselves transported thirty years into the past after their first voyage. As with Jenkin's previous features Bait (2019) and Enys Men (2022), the director served simultaneously as writer, director, cinematographer, editor, sound designer, and composer of the original score. Shot on 16mm Bolex and with an entire soundscape constructed in post-production, the film blends stark social realism with horror, science fiction, and experimental art cinema.
The score for Rose of Nevada continues the drone-based language Jenkin developed accidentally during the making of Bait — those early test drones caught the attention of INVADA Records and became a defining element of his sonic identity. For this third installment Jenkin composed the score alone, while simultaneously rehearsing a new live concert version with his long-standing musical partner Dion Star, planned for a UK tour later in 2026. Sound in Jenkin's films is never incidental: every note and texture is a compositional decision in a radically artisanal filmmaking practice where score and image are inseparable.
The tracklist maps the geography and imagery of the Cornish coast — Cornish-language titles such as «Golow» (light) and «Pysk» (fish) anchor the album in its regional roots, while the three-part arc of «Through The Gaps» serves as a structural spine running through the entire record. The music creates that sense of liminal space — the familiar rendered uncanny — which Jenkin identifies as the animating principle of all his work.
