Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole (Original Series Soundtrack) is the original score for Netflix's nine-episode Nordic noir series, an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's fifth Harry Hole novel, The Devil's Star. The series premiered on March 26, 2026, directed by Anna Zackrisson and Øystein Karlsen, with Tobias Santelmann as the tormented detective Harry Hole and Joel Kinnaman as his corrupt nemesis Tom Waaler.
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis — longtime collaborators in Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Grinderman — composed the score as a natural extension of their acclaimed film work: The Proposition (2005), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), The Road (2009), and Wind River (2017). For Detective Hole, the duo crafted a contained, chamber-scale sonic world: a brooding leitmotif for the protagonist («Harry Hole Theme», «Harry Hole»), terse thriller vignettes («Robbery», «Weapons», «Shootout»), elegiac passages of grief and memory («Rakel», «Sleep», «Old Life»), and a final cathartic arc («It's Over»). Compact miniatures alternate with scenes of sustained tension, constructing a sonic architecture that mirrors the series' narrative rhythm.
The score is rooted in Nordic noir — spare strings, unsettling electronic textures, and charged silences between motifs evoking the moral grimness of Oslo. Nesbø himself described their music as the "ideal companion to Harry Hole's brooding, enigmatic journey through the shadows of Oslo." The album is released on Bristol's INVADA Records, the duo's long-standing partner for cinematic soundtrack releases.
