Mon fils ne revint que sept jours is the original score for Yan Giroux's 2026 Quebec feature film of the same name, adapted from David Clerson's novel. The film follows Suzanne, a solitary forest-dweller whose quiet existence is shattered when her estranged son Mathieu appears at her door after years of wandering. Giroux frames the story as an impressionistic, ecologically grounded meditation on maternal love, absence, and inevitable loss, making extensive use of long takes to evoke the weight of time and wilderness.
The score was composed by Montreal's Marc-Antoine Barbier, a central figure in Quebec's experimental underground — member of Choses Sauvages and ambient-pop trio Totalement Sublime, and an experienced composer for film and theatre. His music emerges from late-night improvisations where granular electronics merge with woodwinds, saxophone, flute, percussion, and DX7 synthesizer. He describes his aesthetic as "a naturalistic dialogue" between chaos and harmony — a language that translates effortlessly into Giroux's forest-set drama, where the boundary between landscape and inner life is deliberately porous.
