Challenge Album Collection is a two-disc set that collects four albums of late-'50s/early-'60s recordings originally released on the Challenge label: Go Champs Go!, Everybody's Rockin', Great Dance Hits, and All American. The 46 songs include seven of the Champs' eight Billboard Top 100 hits. Although remembered almost exclusively for their 1958 smash "Tequila" (included here), the Champs squeezed a lot of variety into their good-time instrumental format, and they weren't strictly instrumental. "Everybody's Rockin'" is one of several vocals tracks, and the album All American makes frequent use of a vocal chorus. The latter is the oddest item in the lot -- an interpretation of the Broadway musical of the same name but geared toward the twist craze. Challenge Album Collection provides more Champs than most people will want or need, but those who take the plunge will find it hard not to enjoy these fun and danceable ditties.
