The Fairfield House Ethio Jazz Project presents "Bath Ketema," a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Ethio-Jazz sounds of the 1960s and 70s. Formed at the historic Fairfield House—the former residence of Emperor Haile Selassie I—the ensemble was established to commemorate the Emperor's legacy and his connection to the city of Bath. Led by musical director Ross Hughes, the project features a sophisticated lineup of acclaimed musicians, including members of Portishead and Goldfrapp. The arrangement blends traditional Ethiopian elements, such as the krar, with complex rhythms, psychedelic electric guitar, and vintage synthesizers, successfully bridging historical Ethiopian musical traditions with modern experimental jazz.
