"Meet the Reekers" is an anthology of American garage rock music, bringing together rare, historic recordings of The Reekers from the 1960s.
The band was formed in late 1963 in the Washington, D.C., suburbs by brothers Tom and John Guernsey. The teenagers chose their original name (from the English word "reek" - to stink) as a joke, believing they were "terribly bad" at live performances. The core of the band later formed the foundation of the more famous group The Hangmen.
Includes the original, raw instrumental recordings of "Don't Call Me Flyface" and "Grindin'," recorded on a single-track tape recorder without overdubs in 1964.
The album represents classic, raw garage rock of the first generation. The music is filled with piercing guitar solos played on homemade equipment, energetic Vox organ parts, and rebellious teenage vocals.
