A new album from the drummer, featuring new partners, with the exception of the guitarist and the bassist. Joining this trio of master craftsmen for five tracks is pianist Laurent Coq, while lyrical singer Marie-Hélène Beignet appears on two titles. The repertoire includes compositions by the drummer, as well as a theme by a colleague from the previous record, trumpeter Yoann Loustalot (taken from a disc by the 'Aérophone' quartet, of which Fred Pasqua is the drummer), another by Mark Turner, one by Milton Nascimento, and a stylistic detour toward Ravel with "Trois beaux oiseaux du paradis," preceded by a very free introduction. There is a beautiful aesthetic unity upheld by a fine group of artists who are always close to the heart of the music. The themes are winding but always lead somewhere (even where they are not necessarily expected). From track to track, this is high-flying music played by exceptional personalities: in other words, a treat for music lovers of all stripes!Title: Ronces
