"The Windmills of Your Mind," performed by Percy Faith & His Orchestra, is a celebrated instrumental, easy-listening classic released on April 1, 1969, on the studio album of the same name by Columbia Records. The composition is an orchestral version of a song by French composer Michel Legrand, written for the cult 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair (originally performed by Noel Harrison, who won an Oscar for it).
Percy Faith removed the original lyrics and focused entirely on Legrand's hypnotic, circular melody. Violin parts and light brass instruments create a soft, enveloping atmosphere characteristic of space-age pop and easy-listening genres. Windmills of Your Mind (catalog number CS 9835) consisted primarily of instrumental covers of major film hits and themes of the era (including the themes from Funny Girl, The Lion in Winter, and Chiti Chiti Bang Bang).
