Ruth Rothwell, a former senior MCA/Universal A&R manager and an influential figure in the 1990s UK dance scene who nurtured the careers of Basement Jaxx, Zero 7, and Kylie Minogue's hitmaker Rob Davis, has transitioned into a solo artist. Produced by jazz academic Mariano Diaz, her long-form project Empire Child debuts with the single "Trace the Race" and an upcoming album. The material explores her London upbringing, mixed South African and Indo-Jamaican heritage, identity, and personal resilience. Sonically, the project blends jazz, soul, reggae, and singer-songwriter intimacy, positioning music as the artist's ultimate sanctuary.
