David Wiffen is the self-titled debut studio album by English-Canadian folk musician David Wiffen, released in 1971 on Fantasy Records. The album is considered a classic of underground folk rock thanks to the composer's deep, melancholy baritone and his sincere, melancholy lyrics.
The album debuted the song "Driving Wheel" (or "Lost My Driving Wheel" on some releases). It later became a cult folk standard, covered by The Byrds, Tom Rush, Cowboy Junkies, and Roger McGuinn.
A combination of intimate acoustic folk with elements of country rock and elegant string and brass arrangements (chamber pop). Despite modest commercial success at the time of its release, the album has achieved cult status among connoisseurs of melancholic 70s songwriting, alongside the works of Nick Drake and Fred Neil.
