"XKatedral Anthology I" is the debut installment of an archival vinyl series by the Swedish label XKatedral, compiling works created between 2010 and 2020 by affiliated composers working within the realm of minimalist, slowly evolving timbral and harmonic music. The compilation features both early cassette releases and previously unissued tracks. The presented pieces explore various facets of sonic transformation: Kristofer Svensson blends gamelan percussion with prepared piano; Isak Edberg and Marta Forsberg uniquely utilize the acoustics of a historic Baroque organ in Stockholm; and Caterina Barbieri alongside Kali Malone deliver a hypnotic electric guitar canon. The set concludes with a complex work by Daniel M Karlsson, showcasing the possibilities of electronic processing and instrumental transposition to construct fluid soundscapes.
