Andy always loved covering contemporary singer-songwriters—in the '70s, that included Carole King, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka, John Lennon, and the Bee Gees. This collection brings some of Andy's best songs from the late '60s and early '70s to CD for the first time, featuring many rare gems from long-lost albums like Get Together, The Andy Williams Show, Home Lovin' Man, and You've Got A Friend. Indeed, it was the magnificent 1969 album Get Together that marked the birth of Andy's new, updated approach: he embraced elements of the hippie aesthetic, ranging from folk (accompanied by The Osmonds) to the psychedelic West Coast anthem Get Together, complete with sitar! And there are moments of pure bliss on this disc for Andy fans. While every song in this collection is carefully selected, a few rare tracks stand out, namely Andy's superb interpretations of "It's Too Late" and "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again." And, of course, his incredibly nuanced take on "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?"—a song the Bee Gees Gibb brothers wrote especially for him. Other classics include "One Day of Your Life," a US hit single written by Neil Sedaka, and "Who Was It?", written by our very own Gilbert O'Sullivan.
