Captain Yossarian - Fela Kuti in Dub (2026) [Hi-Res]

Munich-based drummer, producer, and dub enthusiast Manuel da Coll (performing as Captain Yossarian) has created Fela Kuti in Dub, a project that reimagines four classic tracks by Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti in the style of a Jamaican discomix. The musical concept visualizes a hypothetical collaboration between Fela Kuti and dub pioneer King Tubby, where the hypnotic, repetitive structures of Afrobeat serve as a blueprint for live analogue mixing and special sound effects (echoes, filters, spring reverbs). The album was meticulously recorded at Munich's Studio Katzlbaum without any AI involvement, featuring a global lineup of guest musicians such as Jimi Tenor and Jan Weissenfeldt. To ensure sonic authenticity, the analogue mixing was performed live at London's Sausage Studios, and the pre-mastering was handled by Sodi Marciszewer in Paris using the original Decca mixing console that Fela Kuti once used in Lagos.
