The Last Whale Singer (Original Score) is the original score to the 2025/2026 animated feature of the same name. The film was written and directed by Reza Memari and produced as a Germany–Czech Republic–Canada co-production by Telescope Animation, PFX, and La Boîte à Fanny. The story follows Vincent, an orphaned humpback whale and son of Humphrey, the last Whale Singer, whose magical song once protected the oceans; when the monstrous Leviathan escapes from a melting iceberg and threatens marine life with its deadly ink, Vincent sets out on a journey to find his own song and save the seas.
The music was composed by Icelandic composer and conductor Daníel Bjarnason — one of Iceland's leading contemporary musical voices, Artist in Association with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and a regular collaborator with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and other major orchestras worldwide. His scoring favours scale and atmosphere while remaining emotionally restrained. A defining feature of the soundscape is the whale's own songs: Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir wrote and performed the Whale Singer's vocal pieces, woven into the dramaturgy rather than used as background, mirroring the film's central theme of finding one's voice as a metaphor for self-discovery.
The score blends cinematic symphonic sweep with Bjarnason's signature textural writing, balancing adventurous epic cues ("The Leviathan," "Last Stand," "Courage Within") with intimate lyricism of loss and hope ("The Loss," "Hope," "Alone").
