The historical drama Pressure, adapted from David Haig's stage play and released theatrically by Focus Features on May 29, 2026, reconstructs the tense 72 hours before the D-Day landings, as General Dwight D. Eisenhower and meteorologist Captain James Stagg face an impossible choice that could determine the outcome of World War II. This marks Bertelmann's second collaboration with director Anthony Maras, following Hotel Mumbai (2018).
In his notes for the physical release, Bertelmann describes his compositional approach as an attempt to convey the scientific rigour of a meteorologist who holds his ground against overwhelming military pressure, trusting data and experience over authority. This conceptual frame governs the entire score's dramaturgy: the music follows not the logic of battle climaxes, but the logic of gathering inevitability — from anxious stillness, through mounting precision, to the moment the order is given.
The ensemble is chamber-scaled but dense in texture — strings, brass (horns, trumpets/flugelhorns, trombones, tuba), percussion, hang drum, and piano played by Bertelmann himself. The deliberately restrained orchestral palette mirrors the film's claustrophobic setting, confined largely to command rooms rather than open battlefields.
The soundtrack was released digitally on May 29, 2026 via Back Lot Music, with physical editions (CD digipak and limited 140g coloured vinyl LP) issued in partnership with Mutant Records.
