The Watersons - For Pence and Spicy Ale (1975)

"For Pence and Spicy Ale" is a cult album by the British folk group The Watersons, released in 1975 on Topic Records.
This release is considered the pinnacle of their work and a benchmark for traditional English folk.
The album marked the group's return in the 1970s. John Harrison's place was taken by renowned folk singer Martin Carthy, who had married Norma Waterson.
The music consists primarily of traditional songs performed a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment) with their signature polyphony. The atmosphere of the recording is reminiscent of live singing in the back room of an old English pub.
Two respected music publications named it "Folk Album of the Year" in 1975.
