Released in 1985 on Philips Records, Paul Mauriat's album Transparence captures the renowned French orchestra leader's attempt to reinvent his signature "easy listening" sound for a new era. The album features Mauriat's lush, instrumental arrangements of contemporary mid-80s hits, including Wham!'s "Careless Whisper," Madonna's "Like a Virgin," and Paul McCartney's "No More Lonely Nights". In contrast to his earlier, more fully orchestrated works, Transparence employs a leaner, more electronic approach, replacing acoustic piano with prominent keyboards and smaller ensemble backings. The album also includes original compositions by Mauriat himself, notably the title track "Transparence" and the opening "Alla Figaro".
