American musicians Jessica Lea Mayfield and Shane Tutmarc (of the project Dolour) decided to record a full-length cover version of Weezer's iconic album Pinkerton during their joint concert tour. What began as a running joke evolved into a real project, recorded remotely between California and Tennessee, with final vocals completed at Tutmarc's home studio in Nashville. Music critics highly praised their first single, a cover of the track "Why Bother?", which the artists reimagined as a minimalist piano ballad. The slowed-down tempo, removal of guitar distortion, and Mayfield's vocals stripped away the cringier aspects of the original male gaze, giving the timeless classic a fresh, sophisticated perspective while maintaining its core charm.
