Klaus Tennstedt, London Philharmonic Orchestra - Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68 (2026)

Klaus Tennstedt’s tenure as music director of the LPO in the 1980s is often regarded as a true golden age by both the orchestra’s musicians and the London music scene. Tennstedt’s conducting style stood in stark contrast to the rigor and clarity of his predecessor Georg Solti, and he breathed new life into his ensemble through his reshaping of the orchestra’s sound, a shift in repertoire toward German Romanticism, and his deeply human approach - unconventional yet deeply felt - which was appreciated by all the musicians. As we celebrate his centennial on June 6th, we look back on this incredibly fruitful period with the first-ever digital release of Brahms’s First Symphony.
