Songs of the Sea is the ninth studio album by the American progressive rock project The Winter Tree, led by multi-instrumentalist and composer Andrew Laitres. The official release of the album took place on May 1, 2026.
This album continues the project's tradition of creating deep, melodic and atmospheric music, but this time it is united by a single, monolithic concept.
As the name suggests, the main theme of the release is the Sea. The album is dedicated to its grandeur, mysteries, myths about lost ships and the eternal longing of those who remain on the shore. The musical canvases paint before the listener pictures of the endless water horizon, storms and soothing tides.
In terms of lyrics, Andrew Laitrell was partly inspired by classical poetry of the 19th century and sea legends, which gives the lyrics a sublime, almost romantic character.
Stylistically, Songs of the Sea is refined melodic progressive rock with strong influences of folk (Prog-Folk) and pastoral art rock. The Winter Tree's music has always gravitated towards a classic British sound in the vein of early Genesis, Anthony Phillips and Camel, and the new release is no exception.
