Midnight Roses is a studio album by the legendary Spanish-American violinist, conductor and "King of Latin American Music" Xavier Cugat, recorded with his permanent orchestra. The album was released in 1968 on the famous American label Decca Records (catalog number - DL 75017).
This release was released during the late period of the maestro's work, when he actively adapted traditional Cuban, Mexican and Brazilian rhythms to the then standards of the American radio format and pop culture of the late 1960s.
Unlike the explosive, hot and fast dance tracks that Cugat became famous for in the 1940s and 1950s, the album Midnight Roses fully justifies its romantic name. Stylistically, it is a sample of Easy Listening, orchestral pop lounge and instrumental exotic jazz with a pronounced Latin American accent.
The sound of the record is very soft, velvety and evening. Kugat skillfully combines elegant string orchestrations and romantic piano passages with delicate but clear rhythms of bossa nova, cha-cha-cha and bolero. The central place in the arrangements is occupied by the signature light wind instruments, muted percussion (maracas, bongos) and elegant guitar solos. The album creates the perfect atmosphere for relaxation, a night cocktail bar or a romantic dinner.
