Jowee Omicil, Francisco Mela - OM (2026) [Hi-Res]

Cuban drummer and Berklee College of Music professor Francisco Mela and Canadian-Haitian multi-instrumentalist Jowee Omicil joined forces to record the album "OM", released via BasH! Village Records as part of the "BasH! AkademY Collector" series. Drawing on vast experience from collaborations with icons such as McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman, Tony Allen, and Esperanza Spalding, the two artists crafted the record through pure, spontaneous improvisation during a single overnight session in Boston.

Conceived as a live thesis and blueprint for modern Afro-Caribbean jazz, the album bridges Afro-Cuban and Haitian rhythmic heritages with the freedom of avant-garde jazz and free jazz. Combining complex polyrhythms, hypnotic grooves, and raw emotional expression, Francisco Mela and Jowee Omicil establish an organic musical dialogue that reflects a quarter-century of creative brotherhood and artistic trust.
