Brazilian composer, multi-instrumentalist, and saxophonist Yuri Villar presented the album A Maré, reflecting a challenging three-year period following the end of his ten-year marriage. The album's title plays on the metaphor of ocean tides as well as the Portuguese phrase "Amar é" ("to love is"), linking personal emotional shifts directly to the process of making music. The release comprises eight instrumental tracks and a single vocal piece, Renascimento ("Rebirth"), featuring lyrics by Daniel Basílio and vocals by Laura de Castro.

The musical narrative relies on dynamic contrasts of tension, melancholy, joy, and hope. In his arrangements, Yuri Villar draws from Brazilian popular music (MPB), instrumental jazz, psychedelia, rock, and 1970s funk, carrying forward influences from Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascoal, and Clube da Esquina. The recording session features guitarists André Dantas and André Siqueira, bass clarinetist Joana Queiroz, vocalists Maju Nunes and Laura de Castro, trombonist Jonas Hocherman, trumpeter Pedro Paulo Jr., and percussionist Rodrigo Pacato, alongside Villar himself performing across the entire saxophone family, transverse flute, keyboards, and percussion.
