This album commemorates the 300th anniversary of the death of Michel-Richard de Lalande, one of the most iconic figures of the music of the Grand Siècle. While he is famous today primarily for his Symphonies for the King’s Suppers, his most significant contribution to music history lies in his sacred music, in which he blends Italian style with the Lullyan tradition. In his grands motets we find this blend of splendor and contemplation that epitomizes the vocal music of the late reign of Louis XIV. Here we hear three of them recorded by Paul Colléaux leading the Grande Écurie & la Chambre du Roy, two of which (the Jubilate Deo and the Confitebimur tibi Deus) have never been recorded elsewhere.
