Magic Bubble - Magic Bubble (2026) [Hi-Res]

Magic Bubble is the sole album by the eponymous Canadian band from Hamilton, Ontario, built around the brother-and-sister duo of Frank and Rita Rondell. They were joined by Paul Benton (organ, piano), Brian Kirkwood (bass), Wade Brown (guitar) and Sonny Milne (drums); the record was cut for Columbia, with "I'm Alive" issued as the first single. Produced by John Williams, the album is remarkably eclectic, moving between pop, hard rock, blues workouts and even hints of calypso rhythms. By the time of the recording, the Rondells were a popular live act on the Ontario club circuit — the original liner notes even carried an endorsement from the vice-president of the Ontario Restaurant Association.
Most of the material was penned by guitarist Wade Brown and Alex McDougall, complemented by covers including Robbie Robertson's "Back To Toronto" and Gershwin's "Summertime", delivered by Rita in a soulful blues manner as the album's closer. After the band's split, Rita relocated to Italy, working as a backing vocalist, before returning to Canada in the late 1980s to launch a solo career as Rita Chiarelli, becoming a notable figure in Canadian blues. Today the album is prized by collectors as a fine example of late-'60s/early-'70s Canadian popsike psychedelia; the 2026 Sony Music Canada edition restores the original Columbia program to the digital catalogue.
