n her relatively short career, the English artist Eloise has made encapsulating the feeling of falling in love her speciality. Seven years after releasing her first project, it's clear the singer had already found her sound long before most listeners had heard her name. Her second full-length album, My Man & Me, sticks to the elements that have earned her a devoted following: jazz-infused guitar progressions, lush production and her airy, vibrato-rich, timeless vocals; tasteful horn arrangements add a new layer to her sound. There's something distinctly nocturnal about My Man & Me. It sounds as though these songs were written while wandering empty London streets in the middle of the night, humming melodies under dim streetlights.
Highlights include the title track, which with slightly fuller production could easily have fit in on her debut EP; the R&B track "Why Can't You Love Me" (not to be confused with "Why Don't You Want Me," her 2024 duet with James Smith); and the sultry "You Turn Me On," which, of course, features a sax part that feels both seductive and tongue-in-cheek. Though Bruno Major's influence is present throughout the record (even lending his guitar on several tracks), it is Eloise's long-time friend and collaborator Slim Gabriel who is responsible for the warm production.
