"S.O.O.P. #6: Songs of Other People" is the sixth installment of the acclaimed project by Australian multi-instrumentalist, producer, and devoted champion of melodic rock, Michael Carpenter. The album was released in December 2020 on his own label, Big Radio Records.
After an eight-year hiatus since the release of the fifth installment (2012), Carpenter returned to his beloved "S.O.O.P." concept—recording completely reimagined cover versions of songs that shaped his musical tastes and had the greatest influence.
The "Songs of Other People" series is a personal anthology of Michael Carpenter's love for great pop and rock music. With a reputation as a "one-man band," Michael performed and recorded virtually all parts himself: from lead vocals and multi-layered backing harmonies to acoustic and electric guitars, bass, keyboards, and drums.
The sixth installment is notable for Carpenter's broadening of horizons: alongside his usual American and British classics, he devoted considerable attention to the Australian rock scene, which has been unfairly overlooked internationally. Each song here is stripped of unnecessary digital bombast and carefully crafted into warm, guitar-driven power pop.
