The third studio album from the project ZOON, Happy Thought School, marks the most emotionally mature and compositionally ambitious work by Daniel Monkman to date. The record continues to explore the fusion of shoegaze aesthetics with the cultural heritage of the Anishinaabe people. The album’s concept is built upon the contrast between personal reflections on racial trauma, heartbreak, and a difficult childhood, and a vibrant, pop-oriented delivery inspired by early 2000s music. This project serves as a deep exploration of memory, where painful life experiences are transformed into a unique form of "cosmic moccasin-gaze."
