The American band Burma Jam emerged in the mid-1980s from the art and music scene of Richmond. The group's unique style is described as an experimental hybrid of "outlaw reggae," post-punk, and dub. During their most active period between 1989 and 1993, the lineup featured musicians Tim Harriss, Malik Johnson, John Q. Booker, Ernest von Ofenheim, and Alison Auth, all of whom were concurrently involved in numerous other local and notable independent musical projects.
