That Paloma Faith has a background in theater and burlesque is no surprise—the songs on her debut are brash and dramatic, seductively beckoning with a crushed-velvet tableaux of bruised hearts and broken promises. Though Faith trades in the stylized R&B popularized by compatriots like Amy Winehouse and Duffy, her take is more flamboyant and eccentric. She draws as much from Baz Luhrmann’s widescreen fantasias in the love-gone-wrong song “New York” as she does from sirens of yore.

Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? is the debut studio album by English recording artist Paloma Faith. It was released on 28 September 2009 by Epic Records. The album's first two singles, "Stone Cold Sober" and "New York", both reached the top twenty in the United Kingdom. The album spawned three more singles: "Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?", "Upside Down" and "Smoke & Mirrors". The album received mixed reviews from critics. Since its release, the album has charted for 106 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number 9. On 1 March 2013, it was announced that the album had been certified 2× platinum, having sold over 600,000 copies. To promote the album, Faith embarked on her first concert tour, the Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful, on 12 February 2010, which included a tour of Europe.
