Red Sun — Songs From Hidden Places (released in June 2026 on the Italian label Subsound Records) is the fourth studio album by the Italian band Red Sun from Albone (Emilia-Romagna). This release marked a crucial milestone and turning point in the band's career, completely transforming its familiar sound.
Founded in 2014 as a purely instrumental trio, Red Sun spent ten years building their reputation on dense guitar riffs, desert stoner, and cosmic synth passages. However, with Songs From Hidden Places, the band took a bold creative step, radically changing their concept.
The main innovation of this release is the addition of permanent vocals. In 2025, vocalist Elisa Brusati (ex-Noema) joined the band. Her deep, earthy, yet mystical and ethereal voice resonates throughout the album's seven tracks. Elisa's presence transforms the band's familiar jams into more structured, yet still expansive, song forms, adding an occult, dark aesthetic to the music.
Instrumentally, Stefano "Eno" Dusi's guitar and Mirko Dougari's bass have regained their central, dominant roles, displacing the abundant use of electronics seen on the previous album, From Sunset To Dawn (2024). Nevertheless, the band hasn't lost their penchant for hypnotic, psychedelic digression (strongly expressed in "Hidden Places" and "Sleeping Brain"), and the second half of the record delves into heavy riffs and atmospheric synth layers bordering on doomgaze.
Conceptually and lyrically, the album explores the theme of "hidden places"—both tangible geographical refuges and the inner spaces of the human soul, where catharsis and peace can be found amidst the ravages of time. The album's cover is also symbolic: the font and logo were personally carved by the band's drummer, Federico Rivoli, into the wall of an old mill in Albon, home to Red Sun's historic rehearsal space.
