The Barcelona Art Orchestra joins forces with acclaimed alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón for the album Expressions – Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra, a work exploring different forms of human expression.
The album will be released on Miel Music, Zenón’s record label. The work unfolds in four movements written by the orchestra’s artistic directors: Silenci / Xiscle (Néstor Giménez), Canta / Parla (Lluc Casares), Xiuxiueig / Esglai (Joan Vidal), and Lament / Crit (Lluís Vidal).
Written for Zenón’s distinctive voice on the alto saxophone, the piece places the soloist in dialogue with a richly orchestrated ensemble, blending improvisation, contemporary jazz language and chamber-like textures while reflecting the Barcelona Art Orchestra’s collaborative spirit and the collective artistry of its musicians.
The Barcelona Art Orchestra is a collective ensemble bringing together leading musicians from the Barcelona jazz scene, created to explore new large-ensemble repertoire and collaborative approaches to composition and improvisation.
