Painkiller is the twelfth studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 17 September 1990 in Europe and 18 September 1990 in the United States. The album was released after the band's highly publicized 1990 subliminal message trial, in which frontman Rob Halford and the band were acquitted of civil charges and found not liable for the December 1985 suicide attempts of two young men related to the band's music.
Painkiller was the last Judas Priest album to feature longtime vocalist Halford until his return with 2005's Angel of Retribution, and the first to feature drummer Scott Travis.

It was produced by the band and Chris Tsangarides, marking the first time since 1978's Killing Machine that Judas Priest had not worked with Tom Allom, and the first time since 1976's Sad Wings of Destiny that Judas Priest and Tsangarides had worked together.

Don Airey was called in to play keyboards on the song "A Touch of Evil". In a 2020 interview, Airey said that he also doubled the bass parts on the album on a Minimoog synthesizer.
