Legendary American DJ duo Deep Dish will officially return to Global Underground’s iconic city mix series in 2026. The upcoming release, Global Underground #49: Dublin, is not only a new chapter in the series’ history, but also the conclusion of a two-decade arc that has seen Deep Dish’s previous GU appearances. The duo previously made their mark on the series with the Moscow and Toronto city mixes, and the Dublin episode comes as a contemporary reinterpretation of that legacy.
Global Underground’s city mixes have always gone beyond classic DJ selections: these materials seek to capture the club culture, atmosphere and musical identity of a given city through a coherent narrative. In Deep Dish’s case, this approach is particularly pronounced, as the duo has consistently opted for long-form, storytelling-based sets throughout their career. In this spirit, #GU49 Dublin positions itself not as a trend-following compilation, but as a deeply structured mix representing a timeless soundscape.
The release will be released in multiple formats: in addition to a digital version, it will also be available on a double CD and in a limited, three-disc vinyl edition, specifically for collectors and the traditional audience of Global Underground. One of the highlights of the release is a Deep Dish remix made especially for this album, which is a reinterpretation of an earlier composition by a well-known electronic formation, and which will also receive a separate release before the official album launch.
The Dublin theme is reinforced not only by the concept, but also by the events accompanying the release: an exclusive launch party has already taken place in the city, where the audience was able to get a first taste of the atmosphere that defines the entire material. Based on the feedback, Deep Dish continues to confidently move on the borderlands of house and techno, while consciously avoiding overly current political club trends.
A noteworthy development from a Hungarian perspective regarding the release is that Deep Dish also licensed the music of a Hungarian producer during the work. This does not in itself mean that the given recording will eventually be included in the final tracklist, but it does create a serious chance that Hungarian music will also find a place in the mix. The announcement of the final tracklist will provide a clear answer as to whether this possibility will actually become a reality.
The Global Underground series has become a defining reference point in underground electronic music culture in recent decades, and Deep Dish's return to this medium is not just a nostalgic gesture, but a consciously constructed creative statement. #GU49 Dublin simultaneously reflects on the duo's own history and the legacy of Global Underground, while placing both in a fresh context on the current club music.
