The album, recorded by producer Ian Brennan, documents the unique Al-Mudema ("sailor songs") musical tradition in Oman's Ash-Sharqiyah region. This heritage is preserved by the descendants of East African slaves, who perform songs in Swahili and Arabic accompanied by authentic bagpipes (qurbah), blown sea conch shells, and distinctive percussion. The field recordings feature multi-generational family ensembles Al Ajial and Al Khair. The release explores the deep historical, geographical, and maritime connections between Oman and Zanzibar since the era of the Omani Empire, highlighting the resilience of cultural identity despite centuries of oppression.
