"The Best Of Barry Ryan Vol. 2" is a 1991 German compilation released on the Polyphon label, the second volume in a two-part best-of series dedicated to British singer Barry Ryan. Where the first volume leaned on his late-1960s hits, this second collection centers on his 1971–1972 output — a period when, following the worldwide success of "Eloise" and "Love Is Love," Ryan's profile in English-speaking markets had faded, but he remained a strong presence in Germany and France. This era produced tracks like "Red Man" (a No. 2 hit in France) and the German-language "Die Zeit macht nur vor dem Teufel halt" (included here as "Today"), along with the devotionally-tinged single "Sanctus, Sanctus Hallelujah," which tapped into the era's "Jesus wave" in pop music. The compilation closes with two German-language bonus tracks, typical of such releases aimed at the domestic market. Later critics, notably Bob Stanley, have characterized this stretch of Ryan's career as heavier and more dramatically orchestrated, at times edging toward early hard rock territory.
