STUNNING 1992 CONCERT IN THE SWEDISH CAPITAL Between 1985 and 1995, The Highwaymen recorded three major label albums: two on Columbia Records and one for Liberty. Their Columbia works produced three chart singles, including their number one, signature tune, the Jimmy Webb composition ‘Highwayman’, in 1985. During this time, the members of the group - Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings - provided the voice and dramatisation for the Louis L'Amour Collection, a four-CD box set of seven of the author’s stories, published by the HighBridge Company, although the four were not credited as "The Highwaymen" in this work. Besides the four formal members of the group, one other vocal artist appeared on a Highwaymen recording: Johnny Rodriguez, who provided Spanish vocal on ‘Deportee’, a Woody Guthrie composition, from the album Highwayman. The four starred in one movie together: the 1986 film Stagecoach. Their eponymous debut album was released in 1985, then in 1990, the quartet reunited for a second effort, titled Highwayman 2, which reached #4 on the country album chart. The Lee Clayton-penned song ‘Silver Stallion’ was the first single and made the country Top 40. The album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration. Highwayman 2 was produced again by Chips Moman and six of the songs were written or co-written by members of the group. In support of their sophomore effort, the group performed 35 concerts in 1990, all across the US. In ’91 they played in Australia and New Zealand - with eight shows in all across Australasia. In 1992, The Highwaymen performed another eight shows in their home country, before travelling to Europe for a short jaunt. Germany and the UK were blessed with five shows a-piece, while Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden got one each. Whether France and Italy – the third and fourth biggest European economies – were a little miffed by missing out, is not recorded. The Swedish concert, which took place on 3 April at Stockholm’s Globe Arena, is of particular significance. Not only was it perhaps the very finest performance of the Euro-leg, it was also recorded for live radio broadcast Never before released, this show is now featured in full on this new CD.
