This musical compilation is dedicated to the solo legacy of the prominent American saxophonist Seldon Powell, who, despite his reputation as a highly sought-after ensemble and session musician, possessed a unique and brilliant improvisational style. The collection focuses on his long-standing and fruitful collaboration with composer Galt MacDermot. The release brings together rare recordings, predominantly from the 1970s, including instrumental themes from MacDermot's independent film soundtracks of the post-Broadway era, as well as performances by his iconic jazz outfit, the New Pulse Jazz Band, where the rhythm section was anchored by the legendary drummer Bernard Purdie. The release holds particular collector's value due to tracks that have never previously been issued on CD, alongside rare vocal collaborations featuring singers Salome Bey and Nell Carter. The genre palette of the compilation spans rare jazz, funk, and cinematic soul.
