With Tirado: 3ra Colección, guitarist Christopher Avilez brings new life to the forgotten legacy of Pedro Ximénez Abril y Tirado (1784–1856), one of the most prolific Ibero-American composers of the 19th century.
Born in Arequipa and later chapel master in Sucre, Ximénez Abril y Tirado left behind an extraordinary body of work that bridges colonial European traditions with emerging Creole identities. His music spans religious, symphonic, chamber, vocal, and guitar genres, standing as a vital testimony to the cultural transition from the viceroyalties to the Andean republics.
Although highly regarded during his lifetime, much of his music fell into obscurity after his death. In recent years, however, manuscripts preserved in private collections and archives have resurfaced, revealing the richness of his contribution to Andean and Latin American musical history.
This album, performed by Christopher Avilez, continues the process of rediscovery by presenting 29 previously unpublished works for guitar, offering a rare glimpse into the artistic world of a composer whose voice still resonates with depth, beauty, and historical significance.
