Velvet Vibe, the thirteenth album by guitarist Ronny Smith, represents a mature and balanced synthesis of classic jazz and contemporary urban jazz. The title perfectly encapsulates the project's essence: "velvet" symbolizes the warmth of his guitar tone, while "vibe" represents the rhythmic life of the album.
Smith created not merely a collection of songs, but a cohesive atmosphere in which melodic ideas, improvisational passages, and compositional craftsmanship develop organically. The album opens with the energetic track "Familiar Faces," featuring a dialogue between guitar and ensemble, then unfolds through contrasting compositions: from the lyrical "Quiet Moments" to the uplifting "Heaven's Angel" with gospel elements and vocals, to the dynamic "Night Wave" featuring a brass section.
