This is a compilation that brings together Jamaican reggae reinterpretations of classic American soul and funk hits from the late 1960s and early 1970s released on the Trojan Records label. The collection showcases how singers and musicians from Jamaica, including legendary artists such as Horace Andy, Lee Scratch Perry & The Upsetters, Ken Boothe, and others, reworked socially conscious compositions like "Living For The City" and "We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue," adding reggae rhythms and cultural context to them. These cover versions prove the universality of the powerful messages in the original tracks and their ability to resonate across different cultures. The expanded CD edition contains 23 tracks compared to 11 on the original vinyl release.
