California artist Jeffrey Halford plays bluesy roots rock that is smothered in his searing slide guitar and augmented by his backing group, the Healers, which consists of Paul Olguin (bass), Jim Norris (drums), and Rich "Goldie" Goldstein (guitar). He is also known for his literate, narrative lyrics.

Halford lived in Dallas during his early years, where he remembers hearing a lot of Roger Miller and Johnny Cash. He was drawn to the Beatles in 1964 and when his father moved the family to California around 1966, he discovered the music of such West Coast groups as the Beach Boys and Buffalo Springfield. He first picked up a guitar at 16 and soon discovered rockabilly, inspired by artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, and Chuck Berry. He also began writing music and credits his mother's love of poetry (particularly Dylan Thomas) as an influence on his songwriting. Halford released the album Kerosene in 1998, following that with 2001's Hunkpapa. Guests on the latter included Chuck Prophet (who contributed guitar to a couple of tracks), Steve Bowman (formerly of Counting Crows), and Myron Dove (ex-Santana bass player). Halford was nominated for Male Singer/Songwriter of the Year at the 11th annual Los Angeles Music Awards. ~ Erik Hage
