Nine Pound Hammer - Too Outlaw for Outlaw Country (2026) [Hi-Res]

NINE POUND HAMMER, a Kentucky-based cowpunk collective, has released a new mini-album, Too Outlaw For Outlaw Country, through Reptilian Records. This marks the band's first release in several years, presented as a limited six-track picture disc.
The album features four original compositions written by Scott Luallen and Blaine Cartwright (both members of Nashville Pussy), alongside two cover tracks: Billy Joe Shaver's "Black Rose" and the classic "Lil Ol Wine Drinker Me," originally performed by Dean Martin, Merle Haggard, and other country legends.
Recorded at Underground Studios and produced by Brian Pulito, who also handled engineering and mastering, the album represents the band's artistic statement. Luallen emphasizes that the group deliberately positions itself as a critic of contemporary outlaw country, protesting what they call the "Jellyrollization" of the genre—a reference to the commercialization and erosion of authenticity in modern country music.
