Australian musicians J.WLSN and Liam Keenan, longtime colleagues as art and music curators at a major art museum in Sydney, finally joined forces in a recording studio in late 2024 — a step they had put off for years despite each already making music independently. The session took place at Lost Sound studio in Sydney's Marrickville, led by their friend David Akerman.Title: Country/The Country

The result is the record Country / The County — longform, expansive and distorted, steeped in reverberation. It's built on subtle guitar parts, modular synth pads and sample-based loops. At its core, the record is a sonic exploration of the pair's upbringing in similar regional and rural landscapes: Western Sydney and remote parts of regional New South Wales, where each spent different periods of their lives. The record becomes a kind of score for the drifting plains, scowling mountains and rolling suburbia shared between them — turning personal geography into music that feels as though it exists outside of time.
