The alter ego of former classical performer Erin Royer, Dark River Darling, digs up deep rooted vocals with mountain style banjo to create a fresh water sound straight from the shimmering Susquehanna. Backed by a wide range of additional instrumentation-- Bass, Guitar, Mandolin, Fiddle, Bouzouki, Slide Guitar, Trumpet, and FlugelHorn-- Dark River Darling sings of love, loss, dogs, and life on the road. Her vocal delivery evokes a water worn, organic flow to soothe, or stir, the soul by turns. Her work pulls no punches on the reality of day to day struggles women face to love and live freely. With clever, thoughtful lyrics, she showcases uniquely crafted stories in each song. The two cover tracks on the album, by Jason Molina and Lucinda Williams, fit seamlessly into this collection of Royer's originals, showing range in her interpretive abilities as well.
