Microhm & Imaabs - Latencia (2026) [Hi-Res]

Microhm and Imaabs created Latencia as a collaborative project exploring the sonic memory of Mexico and Latin America. Commissioned by Mexico’s Ministry of Culture for Original 2025: Mexican Textile Art Gathering, the album utilizes field recordings from the Fonoteca Nacional alongside contemporary electronic production. These artists examine how cultural displacement and historical exchanges shaped regional soundscapes over time. Through this research, the project challenges the notion of fixed identity by presenting traditional music as a fluid, hybrid archive. Latencia functions as a sonic fiction where archival echoes are transformed into atmospheric landscapes through digital processing. The album invites listeners to inhabit contradictions rather than searching for pure origins. By reconfiguring familiar sounds into diffuse rhythms, the work treats cultural history as material open for ongoing speculation.
