The duo Dean and Gonzalez built an album out of personal upheaval — hard emotional experience, the struggle to survive it, and the effort to piece oneself back together after being broken down. Their approach is brooding and riff-heavy, fusing the blues-soaked roar of '70s rock with the muscular drive of '90s rock, echoing MC5, PJ Harvey, and Alice in Chains while keeping a voice that remains distinctly their own. Vocalist Sayed Sabrina, a well-known presence on Los Angeles' blues and jazz scene, plays a central role on the record, moving from raw, unrestrained force to near-piercing fragility. That range comes through most vividly on the ballad "Your Truth Is A Lie," where her performance becomes the emotional high point of the album.
