Philadelphia-based shoegaze and alternative indie rock band God of War—comprising Douglas Dulgarian (They Are Gutting A Body of Water), Scott Turner, and Sam Silbert (Hooky, circle of fire)—released their second full-length album, Molly Picture, via Julia’s War Recordings. The record builds upon the foundation of their 2023 debut, serotonin, blending melancholic indie pop songwriting with abrasive textures, warped guitar riffs, and the aesthetic of nostalgic video game soundtracks.

The trio constructs an eclectic soundscape through contrasting sonic elements: acoustic indie rock in "some Prank" incorporates synthesized pan pipes, a heavy bassline drives "defeater," while glitch processing and vocoders anchor "mickey don’t pose." The band comfortably maneuvers through aggressive styles, introducing elements of death metal within the wall-of-sound production of "Lindas," shifting into a danceable boogie groove on "Gorgeouses apartment," and pairing distorted guitars with Caribbean steel drums on "mischief night." The album concludes with the stripped-back ballad "Recital," anchoring the experimental production in direct melodic songwriting. Across its ten tracks, the project balances electronic experimentation, noise-laden textures, and underlying pop hooks.
